Further Education Award Arrangement (2008-2009)

The Western Education and Library Board on behalf of the five Education and Library Boards offers a limited number of Further Education Awards each year for fulltime and part-time courses which do not attract support under the Student Support Regulations. The award consists of two elements; fee support (where applicable) and bursary support (subject to a means test)

Support is available for the following course types:

1.   Advanced Further Education Awards
Approved course of study with an entry requirement of at least five GCSE passes at grade C or above, or equivalent – e.g Foundation Art and Design, NVQ Level 4.  The age of the student is not relevant  for this type of award.

2. Further Education Awards
Approved course with an entry requirement of less than five GCSE passes at grade C or above or equivalent  –  e.g NVQ Levels 1, 2 and 3, BTEC National Diploma courses -  Students should be 19 on or before 1 July 2008.

3.   Under 19 Further Education Awards
Students under 19 will be considered for support only where in the opinion of the  Board the student cannot travel daily to a college where a similar course is available.  The level of support will be identical to that available to holders of Further Education Awards.

4.  Dance and Drama Awards
Students are only eligible to receive a Further Education Award if they take the Trinity College London qualification available at 21 private dance and drama schools in England and have accepted the Dance and Drama Award from that school.

Prospective applicants should be aware that the Board has a limited budget for Further Education Awards and consequently funding may not be sufficient to offer an award to every applicant who is successful in obtaining a place on an approved programme  of study.

The closing date for applications for full-time courses is 30 June 2008

The closing date for applications for part-time courses is 31 October 2008.

Late applicants will be placed on a waiting list in the event more funding becomes available.

Please note that there are two forms – one for fulltime courses and one for part-time courses.

FURTHER EDUCATION AWARDS – CAFRE STUDENTS

The Western Education and Library Board also administers on behalf of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) awards for students studying fulltime Further Education courses at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) .  You will not be eligible for support if you apply later than nine months after the start of your course.  Click on the link below for the guidance booklet and the application and assessment form.
