Notes on Educational Maintenance Allowance for Pupils 19 Years of Age on or between 2 July 2005 and 1 July 2006

These notes are intended as a guide to parents/guardians to enable them to decide whether or not they will be eligible for an allowance.
- This allowance is assessed on the income of parents or guardians and is payable at the end of each term in arrears in respect of pupils who continue in full-time attendance at a recognised school. Details of parental income will be verified before any payment is made. The following is the scale governing these allowances.

an annual allowance of £783 in respect of each wholly dependent child up to the age of 18 years other than the pupil for whom the allowance is being determined;
(an annual allowance of £1,278 in respect of each wholly dependent relative normally living as a member of the household other than the pupil for whom an allowance is being determined and dependent children falling within (i) above provided that the amount shall be reduced by the amount of any income which the relative may receive from other sources;
Capital Fees in respect of pupils at a voluntary grammar school.
If the Balance of income is above £9,307 no allowance will be payable.
Attendance is not regarded as being satisfactory if the pupil is absent more than 6 days in each term. A medical certificate will be requested in the event of illness which necessitates absence in excess of 6 days.
